David Metcalfe actor Matthew Wolfenden has quit the ITV soap after 17 years.
ITV fans were left fuming after another long running character quits the soap
Matthew’s first appeared in Emmerdale as David in 2006
The actor’s, 43, shock decision comes as he blames a lack of gritty storylines for his soap exit.
He joins Dan Spencer (Liam Fox), Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) and Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) who have also left the Dales.
And now fans are fuming that “there will be no one left” in Emmerdale.
One said: “This is getting ridiculous now! So many actors are quitting I’m beginning to think something is going on behind the scenes.”
David joined the soap back in 2006 and has been part of some major storylines, including three marriages and being a father-figure to his former step-son Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
This comes after rival Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks has also bee accused of being in a crisis with three producers getting fired, amid backstage drama and plunging ratings.
A source told The Celeb Report: “The set is in chaos. Cast and crew were clearly unhappy with the way things are going. Morale never been this low.
“Ratings have plunged, storylines aren’t working and things were just toxic on set so Lime Pictures had to do something.”
Meanwhile, fans took to social media to share how they think David will leave the village.
One conspired: “Could be a death during ‘stunt week’”
Another wrote: “Maybe his cancer will return?”
A third added: “Another cow stampede?”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
