Emmerdale’s Nicola Wheeler reveals ‘wrestlemania throws’ in Mandy catfight were so intense they needed stunt doubles

EMMERDALE’S Nicola Wheeler revealed that “wrestlemania throws” in Mandy’s catfight were so intense they needed stunt doubles.

The actress – who plays Nicola King on the ITV soap – said the feisty scenes were the best “fun fight” that she’s ever filmed.

Emmerdale’s Nicola Wheeler revealed catfight with Mandy Dingle required stunt doubles

The love rivals end up using childish props

Nicola and love rival Mandy Dingle will get into a physical fight at Angel’s birthday party next week, after the cafe owner starts bad mouthing her behind her back.

It all kicks off when Mandy turns up and Nicola turns all her “angst and emotions” onto her.

Speaking to TV Mag, Nicola said: “It’s only the throws and the lands that the stunt doubles do, everything else you see.

“Apart from, we did a massive dive on the bouncy castle and we did that.

“Unfortunately I’ve got a back injury but I swear to god we’d be doing the whole thing if it was left to Lisa.

“She would’ve been like “no, we don’t need stunt doubles.”

The TV star said that the scene was packed with plenty of comedy and a even some childish props were thrown in.

She continued: “That ends the scene, then it’s like oh God what is going to happen next.

“What I love about the fight is it’s very comedic. It’s not done in a cat fight way with scratching and slapping.

“We start using all these childish props and they start whacking each other, poor Rodney gets hit.

“Then it turns into a water fight, Rodney and the barista get it in full throttle, then the cake becomes involved.

“And what a coincidence, there happens to be two cakes so there’s a face in each cake.

“It just becomes this kind of brawl, it’s not a full on aggressive fight, it’s very funny. It’s meant to make the audience laugh.”

Nicola said there was full on “wrestlemania!” action, which sees the cafe owner getting a “deserved thwack” on the head.

She added: “She gets a thwack on the head, which was hilarious.

“A deserved thwack on the head, I have to say, because she is vile about Mandy’s mothering, when of course we all know it was Paul who was the bad parent not Mandy.

‘NICOLA IS LIKE A JACK RUSSELL’

“So she deserved the thwack, but that was it, that’s all she needed and it was like ‘Great, wrestlemania!’

“This is definitely the most fun fight I’ve had on Emmerdale. It was just brilliant. I was knackered the next day.

“Nicola is like a Jack Russell, every time you knock her down she’s straight back up and that’s what makes it fun.”

ALL OVER

As viewers will know, Jimmy (Nick Miles) confessed to Nicola that he kissed Mandy a few weeks ago.

She later accused Mandy of stealing her husband, but the salon owner said that it was her husband that initiated it all.

Nicola confronted Jimmy and he owned up to what he did with Mandy and she asked him to leave their family home.

Up until Jimmy kissed Mandy, Nicola was fighting to save their marriage, but the kiss was the final straw.

Jimmy is currently staying with pal Daz Spencer, but the married couple have kept it from their kids.
