EAMONN Holmes has revealed he’s going to be a grandad for the first time.
The 61-year-old admitted he was overcome by the news that his son Declan, 32, and wife Jenny were expecting a baby.
He had been teasing fans about his big announcement ahead of today’s show after what has been an incredibly difficult week for him.
The This Morning TV presenter said: “Declan is my eldest boy, he’s 32, and Jenny is his beloved wife.
“They have just announced that I, together with Valerie and Robin, Jenny’s mum and dad, and Gabrielle, Declan’s mummy, we’re all going to be grandparents.
“It’s very good. We’re very happy.”
Declan is Eamonn’s son from his ex-wife Gabrielle with whom he shares three kids.
He tied the knot to Jenny, who is a doctor, in Ireland in 2018.
Eamonn’s wife and co-host Ruth Langsford, who is Declan’s step-mother, added: “Declan and Jenny – we’re so, so happy for you. Lots of love to you.
“They’re going to be the most wonderful parents.”
Eamonn revealed he got emotional when he was told the happy news.
He said: “I didn’t think I would be so happy, but when they told me the news I got very emotional about it.
“I just thought, ‘Me? I’m so young and vibrant.’
“What lovely news, regeneration. The old guard goes out, the new guard comes in.
“Declan is the same age that I was when I, well, your mummy, had you.”
“Jenny – we wish you well.
“The baby is due in July sometime.”
He also joked: “Please, no obligation to call the child Eamonn.
“We don’t know if it’s a boy or girl, we just want you to be healthy and happy.
“Thank you for bringing so much joy and happiness into our lives.”
Ruth quipped: “I’m the wicked step-mother, so maybe I’ll be the wicked step-grandmother now.”
Eamonn is planning to be called “Papa” by his grandchild.
The star has also been getting emotional for different reasons this week, as he has been in tears with chronic pain due to three discs in his back being out.
He said: “Discs, three of them. Out. It hasn’t been a good time. I’ve been in tears.”
Last night Eamonn took to his Twitter to tease the news and admitted that it’s so good it made him forget his chronic pain battle.
Eamonn penned alongside a shot of him holding his index figure to his lips: “Can u keep a secret? Got something to tell u at 11 am on Wednesday’s #ThisMorning.
“I hope you will be happy for me because I am over the Moon. It’s even ,for the moment, made me forget my #ChronicPain – yes it’s that good” (sic).
Eamonn’s big news comes after he said he’s in a “waking nightmare” as he struggles to sleep through his agonising chronic pain.
The TV star told fans he’d only managed to get two hours of sleep last night because of his mystery condition.
Eamonn, 61, will have to wait until later this week to find out the results of an MRI scan after going to hospital on Thursday.
Updating fans on his condition, Eamonn said: “Well time to check in again ….. who’s not having a good night ?
“Who has pain that’s stopping them being in a beautiful dream ? Who is living a waking nightmare through #ChronicPain ? Just trying to get us all speaking to each other and offering comfort and support.”
He added “Ok so body decided I was enjoying those 2 hours of sleep too much!
“Pain at its worst lying down. So anyone know how to sleep standing up ? Just asking for a friend
“All this talk of pain ….. nothing compared to the pain Jesus went through for us before rising . Part of the message of #EasterSunday … which let’s not forget is today.”
On Saturday, fans were cheered when Eamonn announced “progress is happening” after suffering “pain he’s never felt in his life”.
But Eamonn says sleep is his “only escape” from the agony.
He recommended fans who are suffering from chronic pain not to underestimate the power of using prayer.
The TV legend told fans: “First physio session of the day finished. Best one yet.
“Feel like progress happening. Energy really flowing . Let’s hope it stays that way.”
He has said he won’t know what’s wrong with him until next week because the doctors who can help him are off for Easter.
