KATE Garraway revealed her husband Derek managed to tell her off for having a messy house.
The TV presenter, 54, described it as a special moment between the pair and a sign that she was getting her husband back.
Asked by host Holly Willoughby how their relationship had changed, she said: “You only notice the things they did when they are not there.
“There is a sort of heartbreak that you see the person you love in little moments and then suddenly they are gone, so you go through the ‘he’s there, he’s not there’ all the time. But I kind of think that if that is bad for me, then how much worse is it for him being inside that and yes it’s change.”
The mum-of-two continued: “But we did have a lovely moment where I wheeled him to this place that I used to call the operations room, which is a box room that is a study and I showed him in because I was looking for some papers and he said ‘disgraceful’ because it was so untidy.
“So I know the real Derek Draper is in there somewhere!”
Derek, 54, was hospitalised with coronavirus in March 2020, and while he has shown some signs of improvement, he remains bed-stricken and needing around-the-clock care.
Kate even secretly flew Derek to North America for a ground-breaking medical trial in November.
The GMB star pursued the trip when a world renowned U.S doctor contacted her after seeing Derek’s plight on TV.
Kate accompanied the critically ill psychologist on a gruelling 16 hour journey where he underwent pioneering treatment at a specialist clinic in Monterrey, Mexico.
Incredibly, Derek is due to return to the centre next month for another 28 day stay as doctors continue to monitor his brain, liver and lung function.
And she has hopes that it will help him continue to progress in the right direction, although she admitted she didn’t want to get too excited.
