Escape to the Country’s Jules Hudson issues bleak warning to couple as he’s ‘thrown’ by rogue choice

ESCAPE to the Country’s Jules Hudson issued a bleak warning to a couple after he was ‘thrown’ by their rogue choice.

The latest episode of the BBC One show saw Jules on the Isle of Arran in Scotland trying to help Linda and Terry from West Yorkshire find their dream home.

The couple hoped to find something under £375,000 with a minimum of three bedrooms, a study and “a little bit of land”.

At the first property – a 1920s villa – Jules showed them the large reception room and Jules said: “The extension makes it a lovely size room. Personally, it’s a bit civilised for me.”

Julies replied: “That’s interesting! That’s a rare thing, I’ve not often heard that on Escape to the Country. Were you thinking something a bit more…”

“A bit more rough and ready,” she explained.

The couple said the first property’s lounge was ‘too civilised’

Jules warned: “Okay, you’ve got to be very careful what you wish for. If you want rough and ready, we can find you that!”

The second property was an updated 1970s bungalow on the market for £380,000, which was slightly over their budget.

Jules also showed them the mystery property, which was detached but needed some renovating, possibly ticking the ‘rough and ready’ box for the couple.

Taking the work that needed doing into account, the property was on the market for £269,000, well under their budget.

Linda said they wanted something a little more ‘rough and ready’

Linda said: “I think it’s quite exciting. You can have exactly the house you want! We said we wanted an adventure, if adventures aren’t exciting, they aren’t adventures are they?”

In the end, the couple told Jules they were interested in the second property and the mystery house, which the presenter admitted had “thrown me a bit”.

Linda said: “After a sleepless night thinking about property number two, we decided to go back and give it a second look. Logically, I just couldn’t find what it was, so we need to look at that again.”

Terry added about the mystery house: “We’ve been in touch with a builder and have arranged for him to come and look an estimate on the work that can be done.”

Jules remarked: “Terry, you’ve really surprised me!

“I didn’t really get the feeling I had convinced you, but the fact you’ve made the call to a local builder is proof maybe I have.”

Escape to the Country airs weekdays at 3pm on BBC One.
