EUPHORIA fans were left ‘in tears and laid out on the floor’ following the first episode of the emotional Christmas two-part special.
Viewers of the gritty teen drama have been desperate to find out what the future holds for 17-year-old drug-addict Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, since season one’s cliff-hanger.
And with the second instalment not set to air until 2021, creator and writer Sam Levison has treated fans to two special “bridge” episodes.
The first of the two titled “Trouble Don’t Last Always”, aired on HBO last night and picked up after Rue suffered a drug relapse when her girlfriend Jules left her at the train station.
The emotional episode saw Rue contemplating her life in a diner with her sponsor Ali – who she met at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in season one – as she tries to get a grip on her addiction ahead of Christmas.
The first of the two-part special gave little away about the outcome of Rue’s relapse at the end of season one and whether viewers were watching her post-relapse or in a purgatorial state.
It did however share Rue’s perspective on her relationship with Jules, including some interesting fantastical flash forwards.
Following the emotional episode, audiences took to Twitter in their droves and admitted they had been left in tears throughout.
One penned: “euphoria special episode: art. it was so passionate and raw I was on the floor crying and moses sumney? amen” (sic).
“just finished watching the euphoria episode i will be crying for hours,” another shared.
