Every TV show cancelled by Covid as bosses left scrambling to fill depleted Christmas schedules

AN array of television shows have been cancelled between Christmas and New Year due to strict coronavirus restrictions – with bosses left scrambling to fill the depleted schedules.

With Omicron rapidly spreading across the country there are concerns about events being cancelled – and television shows are among the first to fall victim.

Good Morning Britain has been cancelled between Christmas and New Year amid Covid fears

This Morning has also been cancelled this week in the run-up to Christmas

In an unprecedented move, ITV bosses were forced to cancel its flagship show Good Morning Britain from the festive schedule amid ongoing Covid fears.

The early morning news programme was due to air from December 29 to 31 in the lead up to the new year.

A spokesperson from ITV told The Celeb Report on Monday: “There is a special GMB Christmas Day show which airs from 7-9am.

“But due to the pandemic and to protect our teams, we have decided to give them an extended break.

“GMB will not broadcast next week, but will be back on air on Tuesday, 4 January 2022.”

The news came as This Morning was also cancelled, leaving viewers infuriated, as the beloved show was replaced by a repeat of Rylan Clark‘s Supermarket Sweep instead.

The daytime show, as well as Loose Women, will be cancelled this week in the run-up to Christmas.

COVID CHAOS

Amid mounting concerns among staff and presenters, GMB chiefs made the call yesterday, with its staff agreeing to gingerly soldier on until the end of this week.

Presenters have also been asked to do their own make-up as nobody else will be allowed in the studio.

Shows scheduled for the mid-festive period will now be pulled entirely and replaced with another show, while the edition on Christmas Day has already been pre-recorded.

Meanwhile, Channel 4’s Celebs Go Dating has been dealt a blow after bosses were forced to cancel the end of the series trip due to Covid restrictions.

The Celeb Report previously revealed how filming for the E4 show was thrown into chaos after one of the stars caught Covid and, due to them mixing with some of the other famous faces taking part, at least four people were forced to temporarily pull out.

It’s not the only Channel 4 show to be cancelled as a result of Covid.

Funnyman Joe Lycett’s Christmas special has also been axed – with the comedian taking to social media earlier today to confirm the news.

The 33-year-old was due to record Mummy’s Big Christmas Do! in front of an audience, but has pulled the plug due to the sheer volume of Covid infections.

The One Show, which usually airs at 7pm between Monday and Friday, is another show choosing not to air this week.

On Friday night, the BBC hosts also confirmed to viewers that they would be taking a break and would be returning in January.
