VIEWERS of Extraordinary Extensions were left in shock after a couple revealed they were planning to splash a HUGE sum on a cat flap.
Architect Richard and his writer wife Eva appeared on the Channel 4 property developing show as they set out to transform their stunning home.
The couple were renovating Richard’s office space – a former Victorian timber yard in South London – into a family home for them and their two kids.
The family explained to host Tinie Tempah that they hoped to make their home “passive”, requiring next to no energy to maintain a constant temperature.
Sitting comfortably at around 20 degrees Celcius, passive buildings use air flow inside the building to stay warm, and need to be air-tight.
But the couple realised they had a glaring problem that could prevent their air-tight building – in that they wanted to install a cat flap for their beloved pet.
“We have a cat – and when we started this build, we didn’t have a cat,” Eva explained to Tinie. “So we’ve had to think about Opal.
“We’ve got to build a cat glap but it’s got to be a passive house,” she continued as her husband said: “If you know about the space station it’s like that – an air lock.”
The pair then revealed it would cost a whopping £1,000 in order to install the air-tight flap for their “very lucky” cat.
Later in the show, Tinie came back to check on the results of the build, with Richard and Eva admitting they were yet to install the specialist feature.
“We haven’t quite got round to putting in the cat flap and I have reminded Richard on several occasions,” Eva explained as the cat ran outside.
“The cat is going to get it’s cat flap when we can afford the cat flap,” Richard joked. “At the moment we just open the door and let the cat out.”
But fans of the show were left speechless by the HUGE price of the cat flap, and took to Twitter in shock to discuss the £1,000 bill.
“One THOUSAND pounds to install a passive house cat flap… just open the door and let the god damn cat out,” one viewer wrote.
A second chimed in: “£1000?! For that money surly you could train the cat to open the damn door.”
“£1000 for a cat flap?” a third wrote alongside a series of embarrassed emojis, as a fourth joked: “I hope the cat takes its pan fried scallops through the £1000 flap.”
“I just want to see Opal the cats £1K flap!” a fifth concluded of the episode.
Last week, fans took to Twitter to gush over presenter Tinie Tempah on the show – who recently turned rapper to property TV presenter.
Extraordinary Extensions sees Tinie Tempah follow homeowners to unleash their inner architect and build beautiful and unique home extensions.
After releasing his debut album, Disc-Overy, in October 2010, Tinie Tempah, whose real name is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, took the charts by storm.
In 2011 he won two Brit Awards for Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single and has since established himself as a leading artist.
