BRITBOX UK just released the first trailer for Magpie Murders, a new crime drama series with a stellar cast led by the talented Lesley Manville.
There’s certainly no shortage of crime drama shows kicking about these days, but this one has a unique twist: it’s a murder mystery within a murder mystery!
The offbeat programme is adapted for the screen by Anthony Horowitz from his critically acclaimed novel of the same name.
The Celeb Reportday Times has described the book as “a magnificent piece of crime fiction” and “an ingenious novel within a novel”.
Spanning two time periods (the 1950s and contemporary Britain), the intriguing Magpie Murders portrays multiple characters in different literary dimensions.
Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) is joined by an amazing roster of actors, including veteran British stage and screen actor Tim McMullan (Foyles War) and BAFTA nominated Daniel Mays (Line of Duty).
Pippa Haywood (Bridgerton), Michael Maloney (The Crown), and double Olivier award-winning Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones) also star.
In this six-part series, Manville plays Susan Ryeland, the editor for infamous, best-selling mystery writer Alan Conway (portrayed by Hill).
When she receives an unfinished Conway manuscript, featuring his hugely popular detective Atticus Pünd (McMullin), but no sign of the author himself, she is set on a path with little idea that it will change her life forever.
Peter Catteneo (of The Full Monty fame) directs Magpie Murders, produced by Eleventh Hour Films for Britbox UK and Masterpiece.
Masterpiece is known for hits like All Creatures Great and Small, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, and Victoria.
The production company is also behind beloved classics such as Upstairs Downstairs, Prime Suspect, The Forsyte Saga, and Poldark.
The show streams exclusively on Britbox UK from 10th February 2022.
