DAVID Mitchell and Robert Webb will FINALLY grace our screens early next year for the highly anticipated return of sitcom Back.
The pair, who play out the relationship of Stephen Richard Nichols and his former foster brother Andrew Thomas Donnelly on the Channel 4 show, are back for a second series.
The sitcom, created by Peepshow writer Simon Blackwell, first hit our screens back in September 2017.
After raving reviews, a second six-part series was confirmed just two months later.
Filming for season 2 first started back in 2019, but was put on hold because of Webb’s “little cardio adventure,” and when they were ready to start filming again, Covid-19 hit and the UK were put into lockdown.
However, fans have no need to worry because it was revealed that filming was wrapped back in September 2020 and the show is due to return in January 2021.
The trailer has teased what is in store for viewers, and if it’s anything to go by the first season, we’ll be left stitches as we explore Stephen and Andrew’s weird but wonderful relationship even further.
Season 1 begins with Andrew trying to make his way back into his former foster families life at his foster dad Laurie’s funeral.
He manages to successfully wriggle his way back in and Stephen’s mum Ellen, sister Cass, and uncle Geoff have no issues with him staying around.
Whilst Stephen manages to keep their family pub afloat, he worryingly becomes suspicious of Andrew’s motives and hates the fact that he’s back in his life.
It becomes so bad that Stephen is sent to Lyneham Abbey Wellness Centre to help him come to terms with his resentfulness towards his former foster brother.
Season 2’s trailer teases that it will follow how the 42-year-old manages to get back into the groove of things away from the psychiatric facility.
Webb and Mitchell will be joined by the likes of Penny Downie, Louise Brealey, Geoffrey McGivern, Olivia Poulet, Oliver Maltman and Jessica Gunning for the second series.
Watch Back series 1 on 4oD now and catch series 2 in January 2021.
