Flog It host eats his words as World War 2 posters skyrocket at auction for one key reason

FLOG It’s host Paul Martin was bowled over when a series of World War II propaganda posters fetched way more than he thought at auction.

Guest Robert showed Martin his Fougasse – aka Cyril Bird – posters which came from war’s campaign of ‘Careless Talk Costs Lives.’

The campaign urged people not to talk openly about sensitive war material that could hurt they country’s efforts.

Some of the posters showed an Axis eavesdropper or a death caused by information leaking.

“They belong to Robert and I think these are highly collectable I really do,” Martin started as the guest explained he was selling them because he’d had them a long time.

Flog It’s expert, Thomas Plant, valued the posters at between £400-£600.

The bidding started at £480, with the price quickly rising before the men’s eyes.

The auctioneer closed bidding, with the final sale at £800, double the expert’s valuation.

“Fantastic, thank you,” Robert reacted and Paul added: “Wow, wow.

“It doesn’t get much better than that thank you so much for bringing those in.”

Robert replied: “No, thank you for giving me the opportunity.”

Memorabilia from the Second World War can be worth thousands of dollars as a woman on Antiques Roadshow recently discovered when her father’s Dam Busters log book and war medals were valued at a HUGE £20,000.

The woman met with enthusiast and expert Mark Smith on a June episode of the series to show off the collection of medals, as well as a log book proving her father’s involvement in the Second World War.

After months on the run, and time in a camp, he returned home to be awarded his Dam Buster medal, as well as his Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mark piped up amid gasps from the crowd: “It’s £20,000.”

As the crowd could be seen shaking their head in disbelief, the woman replied: “Really? As much as that? Wow. Thank you very much.”

Flog It! airs on BBC One on weekdays at 5.15pm.
