From A Little Princess to Philanthropy
Remember Liesel Matthews? The adorable little girl who stole our hearts in the hit 90s film A Little Princess? Well, she's all grown up now and leading a completely different life.
A Far Cry from Fame
At just nine days old, Liesel Matthews made her mark in the movie industry. But these days, she looks unrecognizable compared to her role in the beloved film. She has stepped away from the limelight and now resides in Greater Boston, Massachusetts with her husband Ian Simmons, whom she married in 2011.
Behind the Scenes
In A Little Princess, Liesel played the character of Sara Crewe, a young girl who finds herself in a New York boarding school only to later become a servant in the attic. The movie was a hit when it was released in 1995, receiving two Academy Award nominations.
Short-Lived Acting Career
Despite her success in A Little Princess, Liesel's acting career was short-lived. She is believed to have only starred in two more films - Air Force One (1997) and Blast (2000).
A Life of Intrigue
But Liesel's real-life story was just as eventful as a movie plot. As an heir to the Hyatt Hotels fortune, she was estimated to be worth around $15 billion. In 2002, Liesel and her brother filed a $6 billion lawsuit against her father and eleven older cousins, accusing them of misappropriating their trust funds. The lawsuit was successful, resulting in Liesel receiving a $500 million payout according to Forbes.
Embracing a Different Path
After her legal battle, Liesel left America and headed to India, similar to her character in A Little Princess. There, she dedicated her time to yoga teaching and volunteering in a nursery for heroin addicts. She spoke about the solace she found in being seen for who she truly is, rather than her past fame.
A Philanthropic Journey
Since leaving the acting world behind, Liesel has dedicated her life to philanthropy. She has set up various organizations, including the Young Ambassadors for Opportunity (YAO).
Picture this: a former child star who captivated audiences in the 90s is now leading a life of philanthropy and making a difference in the world. Liesel Matthews may have left Hollywood behind, but her impact is far from forgotten.
