JAMES Bond actor Frank McRae has died aged 80 after suffering a heart attack.
The Licence to Kill star, who played Sharkey, died in Santa Monica, California on April 29, his daughter-in-law confirmed.
Born in 1944, McRae was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and trained as a football player before changing careers.
He made six appearances for the Chicago Bears in the 1967 season where he starred as a defensive tackle.
The actor starred as bank robber Reed Youngblood in the 1973 movie Dillenger but is widely known for his role as Sharkey in the 1989 James Bond movie Licence to Kill.
The official James Bond Twitter account said: “We are sorry to hear that Frank McRae who played Sharkey in Licence to Kill has passed away.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Standing at six feet six inches tall, he also appeared as the Wally World security guard in National Lampoon’s Vacation in 1983.
He appeared opposite Sylvester Stallone in four films: crime drama F.I.S.T, Paradise Alley, 1979 movie Rocky II and Lock-Up.
He starred as clumsy mechanic “Jim” in the satirical Robert Zemeckis film Used Cars.
Frank also starred in the 1987 comic science film Batteries Not Included.
He also appeared in shows such as Magnum, The Hillstreet Blues, The Twilight Zone reboot, Columbo, and ER.
The actor is survived by his son and his grandchildren.
