FRIDAY Night Dinner is set to make an epic return to Channel 4 for the sitcom’s tenth anniversary – but it’s not what viewers are expecting…
The popular sitcom has tallied up a total of six series since it first graced our screens back in February 2011.
The last series of the show premiered on Channel 4 back in March 2020 and fans have been wondering when it will next be on our screens.
And while there hasn’t been confirmation of any new episodes just yet, bosses of the much-loved comedy have created a 90-minute documentary to celebrate the show’s 10th birthday.
The episode, which is due to air some time in the spring, will be called You Look Nice: The True Story of Friday Night Dinner and will look back on what has happened over the past ten years with a number of special elements.
Stars of the show Tamsin Greig (Jackie Goodman), Paul Ritter (Martin Goodman), Simon Bird (Adam Goodman) and Tom Rosenthal (Jonny Goodman) will be back on our screens chatting about what it’s been like to play the dysfunctional family for all these years.
And don’t you worry, the likes of Tracy Ann Oberman, Harry Landis and Rosie Cavaliero will also make an appearance too.
Fans are in for a proper treat as The Radio Times also revealed that some of our favourite celebrity faces – including Claudia Winkleman, Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Lou Sanders – also make a cameo on the episode talking about their love for the show.
Despite there being no confirmation of a seventh series, creator Robert Popper teased back in March 2020 that it’s definitely possible.
Inbetweeners star Simon, who plays Adam in the Channel 4 show, had previously said that the sixth season was to be the final one.
But Robert decided to put the rumours straight during a chat with The Radio Times last year.
He said: “You know, whenever you make a TV series, you always think, ‘Well, that’s probably our lot’ – you never really know.
“But obviously, the show has now become successful, which is lovely.
“So you’d like to think they’d do it again. I think they would. But it’s also down to me, if I want to do it again. So I always have to think: ‘Do I want to do it again or not?’ I love writing it. So who knows? I haven’t got a thought like ‘I want to end it’.”
At the moment his priorities lie with the upcoming special, and it definitely sounds like it’s not one to miss.
The comedy producer recently said of the upcoming episode: “I’m delighted that the cast and crew’s amazing work is being recognised in this documentary – unless, of course, everything in it is entirely negative.”
