Jon and Sally were speaking to BBC’s former Ireland correspondent Denis Murray

At one point, they tried to chat to the BBC’s former Ireland correspondent Denis Murray via video link about US President Joe Biden’s impending trip.

Denis had covered former President Bill Clinton’s historic visit to Northern Ireland in 1995, but as he tried to discuss the matter, is sound faltered.

As Jon pointed out they were struggling to hear him, Denis looked frustrated as he tried to figure out what the problem was.

Jon and Sally tried a little longer to see if his sound would return, but when it didn’t, Sally said: “I think we lost the line to Denis.”

Jon added: “We will try to get that back for later in the programme or maybe even tomorrow, for once President Biden has arrived because Denis navigated us through the whole of that process.”

Sally continued: “Every night on the 9 o’clock and 10 o’clock news we would hear it all from Denis.”

She then told viewers: “He is now throwing his hands up in the air out of frustration because his technology is perhaps not working as well as it could be.”

Jon and Sally were missing from Easter Monday’s programme, with Nina Warhurst and Roger Johnson standing in.

The change in line-up left weather presenter Carol Kirkwood red-faced as she made a blunder.

As she wrapped up the report, Carol, 60, simply said: “Nina and Jon.”

At first, professional Nina swiftly carried on as Roger silently chuckled to himself before she addressed the incredible mistake.

Nina, 42, said back to Carol: “Thank you so much Carol – by the way this is Roger!”

The studio plummeted into an awkward silence as Carol gasped and put her hand to her mouth in utter shock as she realised her unfortunate mix-up.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
