Furious Nick Knowles slams Jimmy Carr’s new quiz show and The Weakest Link for ‘taking money away from charities’

NICK Knowles has slammed Jimmy Carr’s new quiz show and The Weakest Link for ‘pitting charities against one another’.

The DIY SOS star wasn’t happy after watching last night’s I Literally Just Told You celebrity special on Channel 4.

Nick Knowles has hit out at game shows that leave charities empty-handed

Jimmy Carr asks celebs questions based on things that have already been said in the show

It featured Lorraine Kelly, Alex Horne, Aisling Bea and Asim Chaudhry competing to win £25,000 for their chosen charities as they did their best to answer questions based on what had already been said on the show.

While one contestant left with a bucket load of cash for a good cause, three went home empty handed.

Nick tweeted afterwards: “So Jimmy Carr’s ‘I literally just told you’ plays off charities against each other to go home with nothing so 3 important charities took part tonight but received no cash at all. Only one got money I’m not sure I like playing charities off against each other for entertainment.”

When a follower pointed out it was a similar situation with The Weakest Link reboot host by Romesh Ranganathan, he replied: “Then I’m unhappy with that too – I recently did Catchphrase because the charity gets what you win.”

His view received a mixed response from fans, some of which very much agreed with him, while others said it was commonplace on celebrity quiz shows.

Earlier this month Nick was left heartbroken after vandals torched one of his favourite ever DIY SOS projects.

The wooden boardwalk area at The Yard, Edinburgh, was set alight by yobs nine years after Nick and his team gave it a makeover for Children in Need.

The charity, which helps disabled children, young people and their families by offering inclusive adventure play, said £40,000 worth of damage was caused.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Nick said: “It’s heartbreaking for those families. The Yard’s a haven for them, and a place where the parents can get advice and the kids can play safely.

“I spoke to Celine last week about their anniversary and then she messaged to say they had damage done. It must be someone deeply disturbed. To do something like that is heart-wrenching.

“What kind of human being does something like that to a place for children with disabilities. We built a geodesic dome and it’s a fantastic outdoor space and a sensory experience.

“It’s beautiful. We rearranged the walkway with the boardwalk. I’ve been back a few times for charity fundraising balls.

“They’re [The Yard] a really success story. They’re really amazing people. To have it happen on their anniversary and to this particular group of people is really sad.”
