Known for her sweet smile, penchant for a cardigan and ability to whip up an eggy feast whenever emotion ran high, the actress is unrecognisable in her latest role.

Gavin & Stacey ran for three series on the BBC from 2007 until 2010.

It returned in 2019 yet now Melanie is treading the boards in Beauty and The Beast as Fairy Bon Bon.

For this role, she teased a glittering new look complete with dark brunette locks, eye-popping green eyeshadow and long lashes.

She’s added sequins to her jewellery and headband and finished off her angelic look with perfectly-applied make up and red lip colour.

Showing off her daring new style, Melanie took to Twitter to post a video with the caption: “Heartbreaking that so many theatres are closing. I feel blessed and incredibly lucky to still be @FloralPavilion #BeautyAndTheBeast

“Fairy Bon Bon wishes you all a …” before the video played out: “Merry Christmas!”

Fans quickly reacted, with one gushing: “Aww u look incredible as ever plus I hope to meet ya one day soon before you go back to Wales as it would be a dream come true, plus would love a social distance photo.”

Another posted: “Brilliant actress. Great show,” before Melanie replied: “Thank you. Kind words indeed.”

After Gavin and Stacey’s series’ finished, Melanie reunited with co-star Larry Lamb, who played Mick Shipman, for new series Pitching In.

NEW REUNION?

Gavin and Stacey fans have been chomping at the bit for a new instalment since the 2019 Christmas special, where Nessa popped the question to Smithy.

Yet Joanna Page, who plays protagonist Stacey, has insisted the cast are eager to resume their roles.

The 44-year-old exclusively told The Celeb Report’s TV Mag: “I think we all would, the whole of the cast would, because it’s such a joy to film and purely and selfishly just having a laugh together.

“But then obviously I think we were all like, ‘oh my gosh, what does Smithy say? Does he say yes? Does he say no?’ And you can see that they would write it brilliantly either way.”

She continued: “I’d love to know what he says but I don’t have a clue. If they sent me a script now, I would not have a clue which way they would go.

“Because I remember reading the script for the special and scrolling up on my iPhone going, ‘oh my gosh oh my gosh, she’s proposing!’ And then scrolling up and going, ‘Oh my god it’s finished! There is no end! I can’t believe they’ve not told us!'”

Despite Joanna’s hopes for another Christmas Special so she – along with the fans – can find out Smithy’s answer, she has no idea if it will happen.

She confessed: “It’s so awful because I never have anything to offer up! Like last time we thought it was completely and utterly over until we got a phone call from Ruth saying do you want to do a Christmas Special.

“So I haven’t heard anything at all, and I doubt that I will unless she phones me again to say fancy doing another special, or never phones about doing it!

“I have absolutely no idea if there will ever be another one or not.”
