George Clarke's TV advert banned for being 'misleading'

What happened?

George Clarke faced a setback as his TV advert, paid for by Scottish Power, was banned for misleading viewers. The Advertising Standards Agency deemed the commercial misleading as it made viewers think they were watching George's Channel 4 show.

Why was it banned?

The advert featured George Clarke talking about 'amazing green spaces' provided by Scottish Power, with the text 'George Clarke’s amazing green spaces' appearing on screen. Despite the #ad label displayed for twelve seconds, the ASA felt viewers could mistake the ad for actual program content.

George's reaction

George Clarke, who was previously robbed at knifepoint, expressed his feelings about the incident. He mentioned that although the watch stolen had no sentimental value, the robbery was still traumatic for him. The architect continues to be featured in the advert on social media and online platforms.
