Who Will Take the Reins this Festive Season?
For the past 20 years, BBC Radio 4's Today programme has invited high-profile guest editors to take over the show between Christmas and New Year. From Prince Harry and Greta Thunberg to Louis Hamilton and Stephen Hawking, a whole host of influential famous faces have participated. This year, we have an exciting lineup of guest editors who will bring new stories, different perspectives, and a little festive cheer to the Today audience.
Meet the Guest Editors
Here's a sneak peek at some of the guest editors who will be joining the Today programme this Christmas:
Dr Nicky Fox — December 23
Dr Nicky Fox, NASA's Head of Science, will explore science education and the influence of outer space on popular music.
Hanif Kureishi — Boxing Day
Author and screenwriter Hanif Kureishi, who sustained life-changing injuries after a fall in Rome, will delve into the impact of his injuries on his family and his writing.
James May — December 27
James May, The Grand Tour and former Top Gear presenter, will look at the future of autonomous cars and the connection between hobbies and health.
Ellie Goulding — December 28
Musician, activist, and philanthropist Ellie Goulding will examine climate and nature, as well as the sustainability efforts in the music industry.
Andrew Malkinson — December 29
Andrew Malkinson, who served 17 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, will shed light on the psychological effects of wrongful detention and the barriers to education in prison.
Professor Jason Arday — December 30
Professor Jason Arday, one of the youngest people ever appointed to a Professorship at Cambridge University, will explore the stigma and shame associated with adult low-level literacy, as well as delve into '90s culture.
Dame Emma Walmsley — January 1
Dame Emma Walmsley, CEO of global biopharma company GSK, will close the guest editor series with a program focused on how people, business, and society can become healthier in the UK.
When and Where to Tune In
The Today programme usually airs on BBC Radio 4 between 6am and 9am. All of the special Christmas editions will be broadcast during these times, except for Professor Jason Arday's guest edit, which will air from 7am to 10am on December 30.
