Gethin Jones breaks down in tears after being left ‘broken’ by Comic Relief 24hr dance challenge that raised £900,000

GETHIN Jones was left “broken” and in tears today after completing a 24 hour dance challenge that raised £900,000 for Comic Relief.

The BBC presenter wept as his colleagues hugged him following the mammoth challenge.

Gethin choked back the tears on Morning Live after being told that his 24-hour danceathon had raised £900,000 for Comic Relief.

The exhausted 45-year-old was comforted by his ex Blue Peter co-stars Helen Skelton, Matt Baker, and Konnie Huq.

He said: “This celebrations sums it up. All the messages overnight have been phenomenal. I can’t quite believe what we’ve raised for Comic Relief.

At soon began to cry and added: “It’s going to change lives.

“It’s going to save lives. I’ve said it all along, I’m so proud.”

Earlier during a crossover with BBC Breakfast, Gethin appeared speechless as he was told how much money he had raised so far.

Charlie Stayt said: “It’s gone up all throughout the morning, the total now is £424,000.”

Helen was stood next to Gethin and told viewers: “He can’t speak. He’s a broken man!”

At this point someone noticed Gethin was still hopping from one foot to the other despite the challenge finishing.

The Welsh presenter danced throughout the day and night in a bid to raise funds for the charity drive.

Speaking about the challenge beforehand, Gethin admitted it was “going to be absolutely brutal”.

Gethin, who took part in Strictly in 2007, added: “I’m doing everything I can to train and get ready for the big day, because I’m determined to raise as much money as possible.”

Until 2021 Red Nose Day was held every other year, but the fundraising event is now an annual celebration.

Comic Relief supports a wide range of charities, helping people who are suffering from poverty, discrimination and violence.

Since its inception, Comic Relief has raised more than £1billion.
