Giovanni's Last Laugh
Giovanni Pernice was seen smiling alongside an ex-Strictly co-star just hours before the BBC bullying report upheld six allegations against him. The professional Strictly dancer, 33, was spotted laughing with judge Craig Revel Horwood before the bombshell report was published.
Allegations Upheld
The report concluded that Giovanni was not abusive, did not make threats, and was not intimidating. However, it upheld six out of 17 allegations against him, including instances of using swear words, belittling language, and inappropriate behavior of sexual banter in the workplace.
Amanda's Experience
Amanda Abbington, who partnered with Giovanni on the show, expressed relief at the apology she received but stated that it wasn't enough. She revealed receiving rape and murder threats, as well as a bomb threat, following her decision to come forward and complain about Giovanni's behavior.
BBC Apology
The BBC apologized to Amanda Abbington over the Strictly bullying scandal, acknowledging the steps that were put in place to support and protect her were 'not enough'. The broadcaster stated that they take allegations of bullying and harassment very seriously and want to ensure a joyous and transformative experience for all involved in Strictly Come Dancing.
Transparency in Process
BBC boss Charlotte Moore highlighted the importance of confidentiality in the complaints process while also emphasizing the need for openness and transparency. She stated that while some complaints were upheld, not all of them were, and the confidentiality of the process must be respected.
Aftermath
Giovanni Pernice has since landed a new job on the Italian version of the show after quitting in May. His former co-star Graziano Di Prima was sacked following video evidence of inappropriate behavior, and Amanda Abbington left the show citing a PTSD diagnosis after her experience.
