Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt set to make documentary exploring disorder she suffered with as a child

SCARLETT MOFFATT is returning to our screens looking at the rise in cases of Tourette’s syndrome and tic disorders among teens.

During the pandemic, medics have seen an increase in the number of young people with the conditions.

Scarlett will meet scientists, Tourette’s TikTok influencers, charity campaigners and the neurologists treating the influx of adolescents

In new Channel 4 show Scarlett Investigates, the I’m A Celebrity winner will be trying to find out why, in what becomes a personal journey.

She said: “This is something I feel incredibly passionate about as I suffered with facial tics when diagnosed with Bell’s palsy as a child.

“I wish there was this kind of information and education available back then, as it’s something so many young people have to deal with.”

Travelling around the country, Scarlett will meet scientists, a group of Tourette’s TikTok influencers, charity campaigners and the neurologists treating the influx of adolescents.

Ricky’s right on comedy

IT is no surprise Ricky Gervais has defended comics against cancel culture.

The star of hit comedy After Life, which returns to Netflix on Friday, insists it is inevitable certain material will offend some people.

Ricky said: “If you talk about 20 things, chances are the audience is not going to like one of them, usually because it relates to them.

“They laugh at the 19 things that don’t affect them. But with the one thing that affects them it’s not funny. They are right, it’s subjective.

“You can’t argue and say, ‘No, it is funny’. It’s like arguing about whether they like cheese or not.”

Ricky knows what he is talking about.

Julian’s pitches take pee

JULIAN Clary has been pitched more than his fair share of dodgy show formats.

The comic said: “It’s Behind You! was sold to me as a new Saturday night show for BBC1.

“The concept was a number of punters stand holding a pyramid of champagne glasses, while various things happen behind them that might cause them to spill the drinks. Another was me driving around America with LGBT pensioners investigating alternative care homes.

“The budget was cut and the show was re-presented to me as six international LGBT pensioners coming to live with me. As if I wanted some incontinent old lesbian from Baltimore weeing on my carpet. I’d rather do a remake of the test card.”

Joel: It’s SAS over Strictly

JOEL Dommett wants an even busier diary – despite his schedule being jam-packed with The Masked Singer and a nationwide tour beginning next month.

He is eyeing up a spot on reality TV, although the likes of Strictly Come Dancing won’t do just yet.

The muscle-bound comedian and presenter said: “SAS: Who Dares Wins is such an incredible show and to be honest it suits me down to the ground. It is the kind of stuff I love to do.

“I would be really tempted to do that. Taskmaster is incredible, too, so I would love that at some point.

“I’ve been asked to do Strictly. You never know what is in your future. We will have to see.”

I’d agree those biceps are probably of more use on SAS than Strictly.

New Year blowout

HOLLYOAKS is in for a dramatic start to 2022 when an explosion rips through the soap’s village and leaves lives hanging in the balance.

Several storylines place the Deverauxs, McQueens and Nightingales at the heart of the action as the Salon de Thé patisserie is destroyed.

The life of Mercedes McQueen, played by Jennifer Metcalfe, will never be the same again

The life of Mercedes McQueen, played by Jennifer Metcalfe, will never be the same again.

A show source said: “Mercedes is ready to turn over a new leaf this January as she plans to move out of the McQueen household with Sylver, Cher and Bobby so they can be a proper family unit.

“But in a sinister turn of events, Bobby lies about his stepdad’s whereabouts in the burning building. The whole village must deal with the repercussions of the explosion.”

It is the Channel 4 soap’s first major event since the start of the pandemic. The hour-long special is tomorrow at 6.30pm.
