Gogglebox’s Mary Cook ‘sang Sinatra classics at her own funeral’ as family say goodbye to popular star

RECORDINGS of Gogglebox star Mary Cook singing were played at her funeral yesterday as family and friends gathered to lay her to rest.

Mourners said goodbye to the 92-year-old at a service inside South Bristol Crematory.

Mary Cook’s funeral took place yesterday

The telly star, who died in August after suffering an aneurysm, regularly appeared alongside best friend Marina Wingrove on Gogglebox.

Mary recorded the three songs that played at the service in a studio as an 80th birthday present from her granddaughter Nikki Ind, 53.

She told OK!: “On her 80th birthday my mum and I paid for her to go into a recording studio and she recorded those three songs.

“We have always said since that, ‘We will play those at your funeral, nan.’

“She loved doing Gogglebox and loved being recognised in the street and would always chat to people. She was super bright and so quick-witted.”

Mary’s version of Frank Sinatra’s classic Fly Me to the Moon played as her white coffin was taken into the crematorium.

Another Sinatra track, My Way, was also performed and the service ended with Mary singing Audrey Hepburn’s Moon River.

The Mirror reports how former Gogglebox director Bradley Cumberbatch read a poem at the funeral.

He said: “I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

“I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

“I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.”
