Gogglebox’s Steph and Dom finally flog £5million country home after slashing price by £250k

GOGGLEBOX stars Steph and Dom Parker have finally sold their £5million country mansion.

The popular telly couple slashed £250,000 from the asking price in the summer after going months without a buyer.

The couple’s plush pad was the backdrop for their time on the Channel 4 show

They still made a healthy profit though, having bought the Grade I listed pile in Sandwich, Kent for £2.6million back in 2004.

Dom told the Mail: “It was like finding gold in a river. We just thought, ‘Oh my God. We must have it.”

It appeared on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed, and the pair regularly filmed Gogglebox scenes there from 2013 to 2016.

The sale came when the couple’s hotel business went belly-up.

Earlier this year accountants revealed the couple had been able to raise just £26,405 to pay creditors.

The Salutation shut its doors in January last year with dozens of workers sent home after it crashed with debts of £1.8million.

A report by a firm of liquidators recently sent to Companies House revealed the hotel’s catering equipment, furniture company vehicles and stock has all been sold.

The document said £600 was raised from the sale of pot plants and £12,961 from the sale of furniture.

But much of the £26,405 raised will be swallowed up by accountant fees.

Debts include £1.4 million owed to “investors”, £88,000 to the taxman, £114,000 in staff wages and the rest owed to dozens of creditors for supplying food, drink and services to the hotel.

The place was later leased to John and Dorothy Fothergill by the Parkers but they couldn’t make it pay as a hotel.

Dom said of the closure last year: “We are sorry to confirm that The Salutation Hotel Ltd, which has been managing The Salutation, has indeed become insolvent.

“We are in discussions with other interested parties and we aim to have the hotel back up and running very soon, under new management.”

But the couple later decided to put the property up for sale.

Its restaurant was run by Michelin-starred chef Shane Hughes while the gardening team won gold at the 2016 Chelsea Flower Show.

Many guests booked in just so they could be close to booze-loving Dom and Steph – and the couple often stayed up all night drinking with customers when they were at the helm.
