What happened in Good Girls season 1?
Good Girls is the female answer to Breaking Bad. It follows the lives of three suburban mums as they get mixed up with the criminal underbelly.
The mums go from laundry to laundering by the end of the first season.
Beth Boland is a mother of four and her husband Dean owns a car dealership. She finds out that Dean is having an affair.
Annie works at the Fine & Frugal and is a single mother. Her ex-husband Gregg plans to sue for custody of their child, Sadie, which she can’t afford.
Ruby, works as a waitress and is the mother of two children, one of whom is ill and needs expensive medication.
The women, desperate for money, band together to rob Fine & Frugal and make away with $500,000 (which turns out to belong to gang).
Annie’s boss, Boomer, recognises Annie as one of the robbers by her tattoo. The women hold him hostage to keep him quiet.
The ladies spiral down into more and more illegal activity, eventually getting mixed up with a high-ranking criminal called Rio, until they have to join a shopper scam to launder their money.
When Rio gets arrested by the FBI, the ladies become convinced that he will cross them to save himself.
Beth returns home one day to find Rio waiting for her, who was released on bail, and a beaten Dean at his side. He gives Beth a gun and tells her to pull the trigger if she wants to be “the boss”.
What happened in Good Girls season 2?
The grocery store crime scene reveals a potential new piece of evidence against Beth. The ladies devise a scheme to intercept the evidence.
Dean (who Beth did not shoot in the end) is depressed because his injuries from the car accident and from Rio will mean he has a long recovery time. Little does he know that Beth has started an affair with Rio.
FBI Agent Turner is hot on the girl’s trail after Mary Pat’s child makes an innocent, yet incriminating, comment.
Rio forces Beth to make some deliveries for him, but won’t tell her what the contents are. Beth discovers that the packages contain drugs, and plans to use this knowledge to blackmail Rio. She has to take her kids on a delivery with her, and one of them leaves their blanket behind.
Dean discovers that Beth is having an affair with Rio and seeks revenge. He looks into contacting someone who can “take care” of Rio. However, Dean gets conned and Beth’s money is stolen.
Beth comes home to discover Dean has left her and took the kids with him. Beth meets with Dean and asks what it will take to get her kids back, who tells her to end her association with Rio and her criminal life.
Beth tells Rio that she wants out of the criminal world. However, Dean figures out that Beth hasn’t cut Rio from her life as promised and they file for divorce.
Mary Pat is happily married to Jeff, who receives disability checks. While playing with the kids, however, he unexpectedly dies. To keep his checks, she doesn’t report his death and hides his body.
Boomer (who was presumed dead earlier in the season when Mary Pat accidentally hit him with her car) turns out to be alive and well hiding in Marion’s attic.
Rio abducts Beth and Agent Turner, and instructs her to kill him in order to rid him from her life. However, she instead turns against Rio and shoots him several times, and then releases Agent Turner.
It is revealed at the end of the final episode that Rio is still alive, thanks to Agent Turner.
What happened in Good Girls season 3?
As fans might remember, Good Girls Season 3 was halted five episodes early due to the pandemic, so the season had 11 episodes in total.
But it was still packed with action, picking up with the girls still thinking that Rio was dead and starting their own counterfeiting business.
Manicurist Ruby donated her nail polish to use as a chemical agent while valet Annie provided the dollar bills.
Meanwhile, we discovered that Rio wasn’t actually dead and became an informant for Agent Turner, before turning on him and killing him.
He tracked Beth down, and she told him she was pregnant to avoid being killed.
Rio spared her, but shot Lucy instead and framed Beth for the murder.
Beth eventually told Lucy’s boyfriend Max about the murder, and Max pus Beth in touch with his hitman cousin in a plot to kill Rio.
What can we expect from season 4 of Good Girls?
We were left with the prospect of Beth and a hitman planning Rio’s murder, so perhaps we might see the murder enacted in season 4.
Speaking to TV Line, Good Girls executive producer Jenna Bans said Beth is “still in cahoots with Rio, so Beth and Dean are on a collision course. We’re just waiting for him to find out what she’s really doing behind the scenes.”
Jenna added that season four delves deeper into Rio’s backstory.
She said: “People are always asking how Rio has risen to power. How is he always able to get out of trouble?
“We get into his origin story and show his evolution and how he rises to prominence, and what drives him. You’ll come to learn that he might not be alone in this whole operation…”
