She shared the email to her fans

Ranvir revealed a screenshot of an email which began with the subject line: “Urgent Notice- Renew Your TV Licence, 6/20/23 9:14:34 p.m.”

She went onto reveal the rest of the email which looked entirely convincing but she soon stopped in her tracks when she noticed something was amiss.

The 45 year old star revealed that the actual email address it had come from was a fraudulent one as it bared no resemblance whatsoever to the official TV licensing company.

This is a method that can often allow a person to detect whether an email is genuine or not.

Explaining how she uncovered the deceit, she revealed she was currently in the process of regarding a series of reports on online scammers which helped her to pick up on the signs.

She wrote online: “I almost clicked to pay this just now but I’m currently doing a scams programme for @itvtonight and something didn’t feel right. The ‘urgent’ bit felt a bit over the top

Ranvir added: “So I clicked on the sender’s email name to see the email address .. and it’s this .. I was seconds away from paying into this scam.”

It was thanks to her subject knowledge in the area that she was able to quickly pick up on the scam.

Ranvir will explore scams in more detail on a future episode on the current affairs Tonight programme.

She can currently be seen on Good Morning Britian as well as regularly standing in for Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled show.
