GRAND Designs fans have been left in tears after watching the “most emotional” house build ever – as a couple constructed a factory-made, flat-pack home.
Former farmer Rob and his partner Kate were seen constructing their dream home on a modest £350,000 budget, finally ridding of their asbestos-ridden cabin on their family land.
Rob revealed his life-long dream of building his wife a house
Viewers were left emotional as the couple revealed they had struggled to have kids
The couple – who lived in the prefabricated shack built by Rob’s grandfather in 1948 as part of a post-war housing project – had fans in tears over their plans.
Grand Designs viewers watched on as Rob and Kate revealed they were having their build constructed in a factory, to then be completed piece by piece on the land in Kent.
The home – which the former farmer said was a long-standing passion project to make his wife “smile” – overlooked an old pear orchard that once belonged to Rob’s family.
He revealed that after the pair struggled to have children, he had hoped that the build would complete their family.
“I’ve always wanted to build Kate a house – to see a smile on her face and how excited she gets, she’s wonderful,” Rob told host Kevin McCloud in between emotional sobs.
“If it’s important to him, it’s important to me,” Kate added. “Not being able to have children, so to be able to create this which is so much of us together, is different, but it’s home.”
Fans were left emotional over the scenes – and took to social media to reveal that they were “welling up” over the couples’ story.
“I’m not crying, you are – someone is cutting onions,” one wrote, as a second chimed in: “I’m welling up at this couple’s loveliness.”
A third chimed in: “Oh GOD!!! Grand Designs has got me right in the heart strings tonight,” while a fourth added: “Probably the most emotional Grand Designs I’ve ever watched.”
A fifth person concluded: “Genuinely the most wholesome episode of Grand Designs in about 15 years with a normal, cheerful couple.”
However, after the big reveal of the factory-made home – fans were quick to admit that while they were “happy” for the couple, they could not get over the “horrible” house design.
“Just to say, it’s horrible,” one wrote after the orange-coloured cladding was revealed, as another said: “I’m glad they like it… I don’t.”
“Not for me… very glad they’re happy. Nice couple,” a third said, while a fourth concluded: “Far too orange for me.”
It comes after viewers were left horrified by a “vile” property transformation which cost a staggering £1.7m.
Channel 4 presenter Kevin McCloud joined couple Colin and Adele in south Manchester as they attempted to turn their modest home into a luxury curved mansion.

With a budget of £700k, it proved to be a complex project and the couple faced a number of hurdles.
But Grand Design viewers were left more distracted by the couple’s shocking design and likened it to a public library.
