Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith convinced she’ll be AXED from TV after ‘silly’ fat-shaming row

THE Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith is convinced she’ll be AXED from TV after a ‘silly’ fat-shaming row.

The 81-year-old judge came under fire from eating disorder charity Beat for comments she made on the Channel 4 show about calories.

GBBO judge Prue Leith fears she will be ‘cancelled’ after a ‘silly’ fat-shaming row

Last year Prue came under fire for asking if bakes were ‘worth the calories’

Prue is often seen asking bakers in the tent if their items are “worth the calories”, which has angered some watching.

Asked if she thinks she will be ‘cancelled’ one day, Prue said: “It does sound like me. Being cancelled because I said something.”

She added to MailOnline: “I’ve had to stop doing it because everyone gets so upset and actually I think it’s all too ridiculous, but I think the world will stop being silly.

“The really good charity called Beat which is something about eating disorders, they say it’s fat-shaming and it makes people feel guilty about themselves which is obviously not what I mean.

“Of course, you don’t want to offend people and, of course, it’s important that overweight people don’t feel like that so I’ve stopped doing that but if you have any sense of humour, you’ll know that I didn’t mean to be… I’ve got to be tactful.”

Beat previously said Prue’s comments about calories could be ‘triggering’, with Tom Quinn, the charity’s director of external affairs telling The Telegraph: “Mentions of calories can be triggering to people with or vulnerable to an eating disorder.

“So, talk of food being “worth the calories” is very unhelpful.

“We would strongly encourage Channel 4 to be conscious about the way food and exercise is discussed, for instance not mentioning calories or specific weights, in order to protect their audience.”

Meanwhile Prue opened up about her future on the Great British Bake Off, which sees her judge alongside Paul Hollywood.

Prue, who joined the show in 2017, said: “God, I’m so old, I don’t think I’ll be there for the long-haul but I’m very happy at the moment.”

The Great British Bake Off is available on All4.
