Great British Menu all have the same complaint about judges after ‘old fashioned’ snub to chef

GREAT British Menu fans have been left furious after a chef was branded “risky” for serving up a meat-free dish.

Viewers of the popular BBC cookery competition took to Twitter to fume over the “old-fashioned” snub of the meatless starter course.

Olivia served up a meat-free dish for the judges

The panel seemed less than impressed with the meat free element

Chef Olivia Barry, who owns Bristol-based restaurant Adelina Yard, revealed she would be cooking a starter without meat for the final.

Keen to impress chef Tom Kerridge, Nisha Katona and comedian Ed Gamble, she whipped up a celeriac terrine and mushroom broth.

Dubbed The Natural World – the dish was inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s documentaries of the same name.

It was also described as highlighting the importance of “sustainable plant based cooking” to the judging panel

“For her starter, Liv’s taking a chance on a completely meatless dish,” the voice-over introduced the dish as Olivia got busy cooking.

“A rare meat-free starter,” comedian Ed chimed in.

The judges were really impressed with the dish, with Nisha adding: “I really love this. How brave to do a meat-free starter?”

Ed chimed in: “I enjoyed that despite there was no meat in it,” leaving fans taking to Twitter to share their fury at the judges’ reactions.

“Why do the judges keep saying how brave it was to do a meat free dish? Is it 1970 or something?” one viewer hit out.

Another chimed in sarcastically: “Honestly staggered at the *bravery* of serving a meat free starter.”

“Watching #greatbritishmenu and slightly puzzled that it’s 2022 and the judges are saying it’s ‘brave’ to serve a meat free starter,” a third said.

While a fourth concluded: “For goodness’s sake what are the judges on about? ‘Brave to produce a meat-free starter’.

“I presume this means any veggie course served in their restaurants is an aside or an afterthought.”

It comes after viewers of the show were left very annoyed with the show’s judges slamming them for being too grumpy.

One fan even went as far to say it seemed one judge was “boiling with rage” on the BBC cooking programme.

Michelin chef Tom was least then impressed as he judged the food alongside chef and restaurateur Nisha Katona, and comedian and food podcaster Ed Gamble.

Hairy Bikers’ Si King appeared as a guest judge.

“All the judges on #GreatBritishMenu were in a very bad mood today,” complained one viewer on Twitter.

Another added: “OK seriously what was up Tom Kerridge’s a** tonight? Even literally congratulating the winner he was clearly boiling with rage.

“Like, dude, please leave your personal s*** at the door and be a professional.”
