Who is in the cast of the Great British Sewing Bee season 9?
Gillie
Gillie is taking part in the Great British Sewing Bee
Gillie is a retired 73-year-old secretary and HR manager.
She learnt how to sew at the age of seven after her mother taught her how to thread a needle.
She takes inspiration from French fashion and loves elegant designer clothing.
Asmaa
Asmaa is in the line-up
Asmaa is a 46-year-old breast consultant surgeon from Cardiff.
She learnt to sew by watching her grandmother who was a seamstress when she was a young child.
Now, Asmaa specialises in making underwear and has even created post-op bras for her breast cancer patients.
Lauren
Lauren will compete in this series
Lauren is a 30-year-old sales assistant for a home furnishings company in Walsall.
She initially trained as a barrister before deciding to work as a sales assistant so she can spend more time with her children.
She learnt how to sew from online tutorials and now sews for herself.
Lizzie
Lizzie will be taking part in the new season of the Great British Sewing Bee
Lizzie is a 49-year-old creative director from Bristol.
She learnt how to sew from her mother, who sadly passed away when she was young.
She now sews as a way to stay connected to her and likes making clothes for her active lifestyle.
Maria
Maria has joined the lineup
Maria is a 34-year-old A&E nurse from Fife.
She uses sewing as a way to unwind after a stressful shift.
Her mother taught her the basics and now she enjoys making clothes as well as handbags.
Vicki
Vicki will take part in the new series
Vicki is a 30-year-old police dispatcher from Lincolnshire.
She often uses sewing as a release from her stressful job.
She learnt to sew from her grandmother and went on to sew her children’s handmade outfits.
Matthew
Mathew is in the lineup of the Great British Sewing Bee
Mathew is a 30-year-old dance teacher from Peterborough.
He has performed at the opening ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics, UEFA Champions League Final and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
He is influenced in his style by the drag scene, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen.
Mia
Mia will compete in the new season of the Great British Sewing Bee
Mia is a 20-year-old student from Surrey.
She learnt how to sew during lockdown after her mum bought a sewing machine.
She was meant to go to university but ended up falling in love with sewing and now hopes to do it as a profession.
Tony R
Tony has joined the 2023 lineup
Tony is a 53-year-old postman from Cornwall.
He would keep himself buy on his long haul flights to the Far East where he lived with crocheting and knitting.
Three years ago he decided to pull out his wife’s old sewing machine and has since made himself his very own 90s-inspired wardrobe.
Catherine
Catherine is a contestant on the Great British Sewing Bee
Catherine is a 34-year-old senior games designer from West Sussex.
She invested in a sewing machine when she bought her first home and has been hooked ever since.
She tries to dress sustainably by turning her old day dresses into underwear or other garments.
Fauve
Fauve has joined the lineup of GBSB
Fauve is a 26-year-old trainnee soclictor from Swansea.
She is also a top golfer who has represented Wales in the Home Nationals.
After attending a sewing class five years ago, she now sews in the evenings and likes to create puff-sleeved feminine dresses.
Tony W
Tony will compete in the 2023 series
Tony is a 33-year-old teacher from Essex.
He was influenced to take up sewing after watching the show’s first season.
He now runs a sewing club for children and mainly sews for himself.
When is the Great British Sewing Bee on TV?
The Great British Sewing Bee returns at 8 pm on May 24 on BBC One.
All episodes will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer once they have aired.
