Fans Furious Over Christmas Special Outcome
Fans of the Great British Sewing Bee were left fuming after the winner of the Christmas special was accused of 'copying' a famous Disney Princess dress in the final. The celebrity contestants were tasked with creating a garment for Christmas Day in the made-to-measure challenge. However, viewers couldn't help but notice that the winning outfit, worn by eighties punk star Toyah Willcox's model, bore a striking resemblance to Elsa's gown from Disney's Frozen.
Controversy and Outrage on Social Media
Viewers took to social media to express their disappointment and frustration. One fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote, "It just looks like bloody Elsa." Another commented, "Toyah has made an Elsa costume." The similarities to the Disney Princess dress did not sit well with many fans, leading to further outrage when Toyah was crowned the winner of the Christmas special by judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.
A Christmas Challenge with a Festive Twist
In addition to creating a Christmas Day garment, Toyah and the other celebrity contestants were also tasked with making a Christmas stocking and a child's fancy dress costume out of a puffa jacket. For the final challenge, the judges asked for an incredible festive outfit that held personal significance to the contestants. Toyah aimed to create something glamorous, stating, "I want to feel part of the royal experience." Her 'Snow Queen Outfit' impressed the judges, and she was ultimately awarded the winner's trophy.
Despite the controversy surrounding her winning garment, Toyah expressed her love for dressing up on Christmas Day. The Great British Sewing Bee Celebrity Christmas Special aired on BBC One to a mixed response from viewers.
