The pair become very emotional as the sweet treat brought back memories of their grandparents.
Gregg Wallace was incredibly emotional on tonight’s show
Cliff wept over the reaction to his tart
Cliff – best known for playing Minty in EastEnders – decided to make the tart as a tribute to his grandad, who he said was an excellent baker and always showed up with something tasty.
Gregg had similar memories of growing up with his grandparents in Peckham and eating the tart.
As he tucked into it, Gregg told Cliff: “I was fortunate enough to live downstairs from my nan and grandad, we used to go to Peckham Rye with them every Saturday and they would buy me a cake.
“This is an old memory, it’s lovely, it’s absolutely lovely. And that jam is like bubble gum in a cake and it’s absolutely delicious.”
John Torode pointed out that he was emotional and he replied: “I know, how can food do that to you?”
Cliff then started to cry and said he was very moved by the reaction.
Those watching at home were very touched by the moment, with one person writing: “Imagine making Gregg Wallace cry with a pudding. Well, it happened. #celebritymasterchef.”
A second added: “Minty from Eastenders just made Gregg Wallace cry #celebritymasterchef.”
While a third commented: “Oh ffs, don’t make me feel bad for Gregg there. It was sweet the way it brought back memories of his grandad.”
Elsewhere on tonight’s episode Faye Winter got sent home, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
Lisa Snowdon, Kitty Scott-Claus, Cliff Parisi, Mel Blatt, and Danny Jones will now battle it out to win the show.
The grand final is set to air on Thursday, 22 September at 8.30pm.
