GREY’s Anatomy boss Krista Vernoff warned fans over ‘very heavy episodes’ in season 17.
This comes after the tragic coronavirus storyline involving Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) who’s battling the virus.
Krista, 46, admitted the upcoming episodes are “very intense” and the show will be as deep and true as it can possibly be.
She warned: “These were very heavy episodes and we have some pretty intense episodes coming up at the beginning of the year as well.
“We started our season in April of 2020, and we’re being as honest and as authentic and as deep and as true with that as we can.”
She added: “What that means is we have to find our hope and our joy and our silver linings and our humor and our sexy and our romantic inside the parameters that 2020 offered us.”
However, Krista does hope that the current situation will improve across the US and the rest of the world and plans to portray that in future Grey’s Anatomy episodes.
“I’m hopeful for a vaccine. I’m hopeful that people will start to take the pandemic seriously. I’m hopeful that they’ll start to wear masks,” she explained.
“I’m hopeful that we can depoliticize this thing and all just take care of ourselves and each other and our healthcare workers.
“One of the ways that Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 are helping with that is by living inside of the pandemic rather than jumping to an idealized post-pandemic world. So, I have a different twist on hope this year.”
Speaking of the coronavirus, last month Grey’s Anatomy star Camilla Luddington hit back at fan complaints as the drama was blasted for ‘wasting face masks’ for hospital scenes.
A disgruntled fan took to Twitter and wrote: “You don’t need to be wearing a N95/KN95 mask behind the scenes. You don’t need to be wasting PPE. A disposable mask will work just fine.”
The actress, who plays Jo Karev on the show, fired back: “If you see any of us wearing KN95s behind the scenes, it’s because we are wearing our costume masks,” she responded on Twitter.
“We don’t also get an extra KN95 to wear between takes.”
