Hallmark Accused of Wanting to Replace Older Talent in New Lawsuit

Age Discrimination Claims

An age discrimination lawsuit has claimed that a Hallmark executive made a comment about casting "old talent," with actresses Lacey Chabert and Holly Robinson Peete cited as examples.

Legal Action

Former Hallmark casting director Penny Perry, 79, filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, accusing Hallmark executives of age and disability discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, defamation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Allegations Denied

Hallmark has denied the allegations, stating that Chabert and Robinson Peete have a home at Hallmark and that they do not generally comment on pending litigation.

Claims of Replacement

Perry alleges that she was abruptly fired in April after receiving strong performance evaluations and was replaced with a younger man, being told she was "too long in the tooth."

Ageist Conduct

Perry also claims "vile and ageist conduct" from Hallmark, alleging a pattern of pushing out older employees in their 60s and 70s due to their age.
