The Holiday – ITV at 11am
Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without the romantic flick that is The Holiday.
Two women, one from America and one from Britain, swap homes at Christmastime after bad breakups with their boyfriends.
Each woman finds romance with a local man, but realises that the imminent return home may end the relationship.
Friday, December 24
Home Alone – Channel 4 at 6pm
This time of the year might all be about turkey, presents and trees – but nothing says Christmas like Home Alone’s Kevin McCallister screaming in the hall.
After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin, he awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true.
But his excitement sours when he realises that two con men plan to rob the McCallister residence and that he alone must protect the family home.
Friday, December 25
Love Actually – ITV at 10.40pm
The 2003 Richard Curtis film pops into Netflix’s top ten in the UK almost every Christmas.
Thankfully, for those that don’t have a subscription to the streaming service, ITV are playing the festive favourite on Christmas Day.
A star-studded cast of Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Kiera Knightley, Bill Nighy, Liam Neeson, Rowan Atkinson and the late Alan Rickman make up the film that continues to stand the test of time.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas – Amazon Prime
The Grinch and his loyal dog, Max, live a solitary existence inside a cave on Mount Crumpet.
With help from Max, the green grump hatches a scheme to pose as Santa Claus, steal Christmas and silence the Whos’ holiday cheer once and for all.
Elf – Amazon Prime
Buddy was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves.
Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father.
After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results.
The Snowman – Amazon Prime
A boy whose dog has just died moves to a new house. In the garden he builds a snowman and then, to keep it company, a snow dog.
During the night they both come to life, and the three embark on magical adventures.
