Will there be a season three of His Dark Materials?

The second season of His Dark Materials was adapted from The Subtle Knife, the second book in Philip Pullman’s series.

There is a third book, The Amber Spyglass, so it would make sense for the TV series to follow suit and cover the events of the novel in a third season.

The show’s writer Jack Thorne confirmed he is working on series three in the hope of it being commissioned, telling Comics Beat: “So I’ve been writing Series Three; I’ve written four episodes of Series Three.

“You know nothing is set in stone, but we’re writing on. And while I’ve been writing, Joel Collins, our production designer, has been drawing.

“So, I have seen pictures of things, and they’re exciting pictures. We’re in development for what will eventually be on screen.

“Nothing is decided yet, but I have seen pictures and it’s really interesting.”

When would series three of His Dark Materials be released?

Series one and two of His Dark Materials were filmed back to back, so they were able to be released in November of 2019 and 2020, respectively.

However, season three hasn’t been given the green light yet, and even if it is, the coronavirus pandemic could delay filming and push a potential release back to 2022.
