Holby City fans heartbroken as hospital bombshell ‘marks the beginning of the end’ for beloved show

HOLBY City fans were left heartbroken as hospital bombshell “marks the beginning of the end” for the beloved BBC One show.

With several weeks to go before the grand finale, following an explosive Christmas special, the hospital received crushing news in Tuesday’s episode.

Jac fought through her symptoms to present to the board

After a disastrous CQC inspection, Holby City hospital is, once again, being put to the test.

The staff, and particularly Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel), was faced with another inspection by the Clinical Strategy Directorate (CSD).

Jac returned to the hospital alongside Eli (Davood Ghadami) and Madge (Claire Burt) in the hopes of hurling the hospital out of special measures.

The CSD examined whether Jac managed to turn things around, like she was employed to do.

But aside from her attempts in saving the hospital, the strong-minded surgeon is also fighting for her life.

Back in August, 2021, Jac dropped a bombshell on her colleague Henrik Hanssen when she revealed she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

And as her health declines, Jac keeps it pushing, however, her efforts may be vain.

Jac fought through her symptoms to present to the board.

Unaware of her condition, Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) was confident that Jac will succeed in pulling the hospital out of special measures.

Unfortunately, Jac is told that her determination won’t be enough for the staff to catch up with work needing to be dealt with.

This results in Jac, Henrik and Max being informed that all specialist surgical wards will likely be relocated to a single site, in Saint James’ hospital.

Viewers were gutted that the storyline marked the end of its 23-year-run.

One wrote: “It really is the beginning of the end.”

Another posted: “Really heartbroken that Holby City is ending like this.”

A third agreed: “Another three months? Aww… I just realised that Holby City is literally going out in real-time. Please #SaveHolbyCity! There are so few shows like this now and quite frankly, we need them.”

“Can’t get over the writing the Holby staff are literally trying to save Holby,” added a fourth.

As the show was cancelled in June, 2021, the devastating news is setting the stage for the finale of the Casualty spin-off.

The medical drama has been running since 1999 and is set to end in March, 2022, after 23 years on the air.
