Julia has opened up about her mastectomy and breast reconstruction in a new documentary on ITV tonight

Julia revealed she didn’t have enough fat around her body to reconstruct the breast after her and was offered silicone implants.

The brave star revealed to Holly, 41, and Phillip Schofield the moment she she told her children she had cancer, and how she felt before and after the surgery.

Julia appeared on ITV daytime This Morning ahead of her upcoming ITV documentary Breast Cancer and Me tonight.

The trio watched a clip from tonight’s documentary, in which Julia says: “One of the things I did before the operation was to say goodbye to my left boob.

“I just said ‘thank you for everything we’ve been through together. I’ve breastfed both of my children, I’ve jumped in the sea. I’ve run up mountains.”

The TV star then told an emotional Holly and Phil in the studio: “That got me.

“I mean my kids have been amazing, they’ve made friends with my new boob, they say ‘mummy it doesn’t feel the same’ and I say ‘I know it doesn’t feel the same but I’m here, and that’s what it has done.'”

Holly had tears in her eyes as Julia added: “I’m still very emotional.”

Julia recently shared the last photo she took of her body before the operation.

She captioned it: “This is the last pic I took of myself before my mastectomy, to remove a 6cm tumour from my left breast.

“One of the best bits of advice I was given by my friend Heidi who’ has been through this, was to say goodbye & thank you to my breast.. for all the years of service & time spent together.

“Saying farewell & grieving for what we’ve lost is OK.”
