A licensing rights dispute between Butlin’s and TV producer Dan Baldwin's company, Hungry Bear Media, has left characters from the BBC hit show Gladiators competing in black tracksuits instead of their on-screen costumes. The Meet The Stars of Gladiators experience at Butlin’s is missing its usual logos and branding due to the ongoing disagreement.
What happened?
Sources reveal that Hungry Bear Media, which produces Gladiators for the BBC, agreed to a deal with Butlin’s. However, as the original format and branding are owned by US entertainment giant MGM, the cast is now seen in all-black outfits on stage without any TV logos.
Reactions and Apologies
Attendees at Butlin’s Bognor Regis, Minehead, and Skegness resorts have expressed disappointment over the change, with fans noting that the stars were in tracksuits instead of their iconic costumes. Butlin’s has apologized for altering some show dates but has not addressed the licensing rights issue.
All images of the cast in their Gladiators costumes have been removed from Butlin’s website, and both MGM and Hungry Bear Media have declined to provide any comments on the matter.
