HOLLYOAKS’ Connor Calland has opened up about his departure from the soap – saying his shock death was “difficult” to keep under wraps.
The actor, who played Jordan Price, made his dramatic exit after being killed off in a showdown against Charlie Dean and Ella Richardson.
While fans were shocked to see the body bag victim finally revealed, Connor admitted he’d been keeping the secret for most of the year.
He explained to Digital Spy: “I’ve known for a good chunk of the year. I wasn’t aware immediately at the start, but I’ve had a good amount of time to build towards that and focus on it.
“It’s been a difficult secret to keep but I think I’ve kept it well.”
Connor added that not even his fellow Hollyoaks actors knew all the details, explaining that “when people started reading” the scripts is when they “found out”.
“Across the year as a whole, nobody knew,” he said. “I didn’t speak to anybody on set about it. People were speculating but I just kept it in the back of my head.”
Connor admitted he expects the audience to be “upset” by his departure from the show, but understands many will believe “what comes around goes around”.
“As Jordan is someone who came in as the bad guy and targeted the kids in the village, it’s important that what goes around, comes around,” he said.
“I just hope people see that Jordan has now acted out of love for Sid, Juliet, Charlie and Ella. He doesn’t want them to face what he’s faced. I’d like them to think that, in the end, and people see that in him.”
While he can’t give away too many spoilers, the actor assured audiences are going to see “the aftermath” of the County Lines storyline.
The narrative saw Jordan recruit other young residents of the Chester town into his drug gang, headed up by Victor Brothers (Benjamin O’Mahoney).
Connor said it felt “rewarding” to reflect the issue in Hollyoaks, having not thought much about the issue before.
Being the focus of subject, the actor “did his research” by working with charities to “open his eyes” to the truth of County Lines.
He concluded: “I’m going to be watching to see what happens [next]. I’d like to see how Sid and Juliet can get themselves out of this situation.
“It’ll be interesting to see how the writers deal with that.”
