HOLLYOAKS actor Jamie Lomas has come under fire from fans for buying a miniature dachshund.
The 46-year-old shared a picture of himself holding a tiny puppy in his hand – and was inundated with messages from concerned animal lovers.
Alongside the image, Jamie – who plays Warren Fox on the Channel 4 soap – wrote: “So excited to meet the latest member of the family meet Brian the really small miniature dachshund and thank you to @poshdogsofworsley we can’t wait till he’s big enough to bring home
.”
But not everyone was so excited, as one person wrote: “Those poor puppies! Please do your research on dilutes/lilacs breeders sell them for extortionate prices and the puppies pay the price.”
A second added: “Extremely concerned that you are being allowed to view a puppy this young. Shocking. Breeder should not have allowed this.”
While a third wrote: “Nooooo! Please people do not go getting these poor pups. The people that breed them should be banned with all the issues they have.
“Please do proper research as I am not in any way an expert, far from it, just know that these poor pups should not exist.”
And a fourth added: “Gorgeous pup Jamie but please do your research on this colour, Isabella’s or blues are a diluted colour in Dachshunds and can come with a whole host of issues. X”
An Isabella dachshund has a fawn tinged coats and is often called a lilac or fawn.
Breeders achieve the lilac tone by breeding a recessive gene to dilute the chocolate colouring in the dachshund’s coat.
The gene that causes the colour to dilute can cause a series of skin issues for the dogs, most commonly colour dilution alopecia.
The dog can lose it’s hair and have weakened skin, which can lead to a host of more serious problems such as skin cancer.
