Toby Faroe star admits sick Dr Ley experiment scenes ‘took a toll’ on his life

The scenes with Dr Ley breaking Toby down and manipulating him were tough to film for actor Bobby Gordon, to the point that he called his mum up at the end of every day.

Bobby Gordon, 27, told Inside Soap: “We’d have a conversation and I’d ask her, ‘You still love me, right?’ to which she’d reply, ‘Of course I love you, son!’

“But I just needed to hear it, because I have to pretend to be a person who’s never experienced love, so I have to remind myself how fortunate I am to not be in that position.”

She added: “It does take its toll on you when you’re tapping into that mindset all day, but I’m so grateful to be able to showcase that side of Toby. There’s some interesting stuff to come…”

The evil doctor was brought back to help Toby but is actually experimenting on him again

Toby’s sister Celeste prevented him from killing his mum Martine

In recent months Toby has battered his cousin Lisa to death after mistaking her for brother Mitchell, and threatened to kill him afterwards if he didn’t leave the village.

He even trapped his own mother in his dad Felix’s garage and was planning to burn it down with her inside, before sister Celeste saved the day.

His sibling then decided to enlist the help of Dr Ley to try and ‘cure’ him, but unsurprisingly, she does not have Toby’s best interests at heart.

Dr Ley plans to experiment on Toby again as she asked her publisher in January 22’s episode about the possibility of writing a sequel to The Red Door because Toby was beyond saving since he was incapable of love.

“I’ll have to loosen his tongue before he reveals those dark secrets he must have, and then I’ll have my conclusion. I can see the headlines: ‘The nature versus nurture debate settled finally, by the esteemed Dr Ley.'”

Actor Bobby Gordon said the scenes were so tough to film that he had to call his mum up at the end of every day

Kéllé Bryan, 45, Toby’s on-screen mum Martine, has revealed how her Loose Women co-star Denise Welch “totally conned her” into getting the inside scoop before joining the show.

The 45-year-old actress – who plays Martine Deveraux on the Channel 4 soap – had no idea that her pal was sneakily asking her questions about what it’s like on set because she was joining the cast.

She told Digital Spy: “Honestly, it’s such a joy having her here. We share so much in common. She was brilliant because it’s supposed to be confidential when you join the show.

“So she called me up and said, ‘One of my friends is thinking of joining the cast of Hollyoaks, can you give me some insight into what it’s like?’ I gave her all the insights and she said: ‘Oh that’s brilliant, thanks so much hun’.

“Three or four weeks later, she was like, ‘You know that friend of mine? It’s me!’ I was like, ‘What?! Oh my God! You totally conned me!”
