RICHARD Hammond has revealed the excruciating moment on The Great Escapists that left bosses ‘grinding their teeth with hatred’.
The 51-year-old has joined forces with Mythbusters Tory Belleci for a new survival series on Amazon Prime Video.
The pair are shipwrecked on a desert island wherethey not only have to survive but create a ‘paradise island’ with materials found on the shipwreck and on the land.
Appearing on Sunday Brunch via video link to discuss his new show, Richard revealed he had come up with a catchphrase while filming, but not everyone liked it.
He said: “We came up with the circumstance in which we would have to use science and stuff to solve everyday problems.
“And then we thought ‘If we’ve been stranded on a deserted island with just a shipwreck, we could salvage stuff from the shipwreck to no only make our lives possible but better.’
“Then I came up with a catchphrase, you’ll like it Tim, you like a catchphrase.
“I’ll try it on you, I tried this at the pitch to Amazon. People from my team were grinding their teeth to powder because they hated it.
“We don’t want to just survive, we want to surthrive…”
During his appearance on the show, Richard also admitted he felt pressure to make his new programme a success.
He explained: “There was moment one on the beach, it’s my company making it so I felt really responsible.
“And standing in front of Tory, who I’d hung out with as we were writing it and planning it and it wasn’t until day one, scene one.
“The director says ‘Action’ and I look at Tory and think ‘Wait a minute, we’ve never worked together, what if it doesn’t work?’
“‘All of these people have come here, I am going to be in a lot of trouble’. But, it did thankfully.”
The Great Escapists is available on Amazon Prime Video now.
