THE cast of Home and Away have been forced to postpone scheduled filming due to ongoing coronavirus lockdown restrictions in Sydney.
The Aussie show – which has halted production over the past fortnight – was expected to resume filming after the coronavirus shutdown.
However, it has now been confirmed that the production break will be extended as a result of tighter lockdown restrictions in Sydney, where the soap is shot.
Home and Away star Shane Withington – who plays John Palmer – revealed the bad news over the weekend.
He wrote on social media: “It really looks like they want people to stay at home unless their work is essential.
When asked by a fan whether filming the soap was essential, the actor added: “Not anymore…they pulled us today.”
Channel Seven, the network behind Home and Away, confirmed to Digital Spy that the cast won’t be returning to set, revealing in a statement: “The health and safety of all Seven West Media employees is paramount.
“With the ongoing COVID-19 related restrictions, Home and Away’s scheduled two-week production break has been extended as a precautionary response to the current pandemic.”
People in Greater Sydney are banned from doing anything other than essential work, exercising outside with one other person, buying groceries or medical visits under rules that have been extended until July 30.
Viewers will remember that Home and Away was forced to pause production for two months last spring when lockdown first hit.
Social distancing measures and other precautions were put in place for the return of the cast and crew.
The soap has released a trailer teasing what viewers can expect this September and promising plenty of drama.
A car can be seen launching off a steep hill, before teetering on the edge of a cliff, but it’s unclear who’s inside.
Just who is in danger?
Viewers will have to wait and see.
Catch Home and Away weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
