CHARLOTTE Church was unmasked at The Masked Singer’s Mushroom on Saturday night – much to the delight of fans.
Viewers at home had placed their bets it could be the Welsh classical singer under the mask after weeks of tough singing competition.
Charlotte, 35, shocked the judges when she revealed she was Mushroom, as the panel failed to guess correctly guess that it was her.
Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, Rita Ora and Davina McCall were left open-mouthed when she lifted off the helmet and smiled for the audience.
The mum-of-three was quick to reveal it was likely the panel weren’t the only ones shocked to see her, after lying to keep her identity a secret.
She detailed how her nearest and dearest were kept in the dark about her cameo on the show – as she said she even hid it from her mum.
Speaking after the grand finale, where she came second to Panda – who was unmasked as Natalia Imbruglia – Charlotte told audiences of the lengths she went to.
“I took on the challenge because I liked the idea of the show being entirely centred around the voice,” Charlotte detailed.
“I haven’t sung in the public eye for quite some time now so it felt like the perfect opportunity. I really wanted to design my own costume.”
“It’s REALLY hard to keep the secret,” the star went on as she looked back on the experience. “I’ve even had to lie to my own mum!”
Last night, Natalie Imbruglia was unmasked as the winner of the show – sparking a fix row on social media.
The Australian star, 47 – famed for hits including Torn and Wrong Impression – beat off competition from Charlotte Church as Mushroom and Mark Feehily who was unmasked at Robobunny.
Those watching at home weren’t convinced by her win because many felt she wasn’t the strongest singer and took to Twitter to complain.
One person wrote: “Panda was absolutely amazing but not the best. Fix! #TheMaskedSinger #TheMaskedSingerUK.”
A second tweeted: “Absolute fix #TheMaskedSinger”
While a third added: “How anybody in that audience thinks Panda is a better singer than Robbobunny or Mushroom is beyond me? Mushroom absolutely robbed. Has to be a fix. #MaskedSingerUK.”
And a fourth raged: “Well that’s me changing the channel now! Absolute boll**ks that panda won against robo bunny and mushroom, your audience needs looking at!!! Clearly a fix! What a waste of an evening !! #MaskedSingerUK.”
Fans had already suspected it was Natalie behind the mask after it was revealed she would be appearing on the Graham Norton Show next week.
Speaking after her win, the one-time Neighbours star said: “I just loved being Panda. When I put the costume on I would just become Panda.
“I stayed in an American accent the whole time so if I sound weird that’s because I have been flipping.
“I just had so much fun. I made friends with a traffic cone and a mushroom. This is an amazing show and I am thrilled to have been a part of it.”
