Huge star reveals they’ve turned down Strictly several times but praises Angela Rippon for age-defying performances

A well-known star has recently opened up about her multiple rejections of the popular TV show Strictly Come Dancing, while also applauding Angela Rippon for her remarkable performances. Joan Collins, the 90-year-old actress famous for her role in Dynasty, spoke highly of Rippon, who, at the age of 78, became the oldest celebrity to participate in the dance competition and stunned viewers with her impressive vertical leg lift last week.

Rejecting Strictly offers

In an interview with BBC Radio 4 Woman's House, Collins admitted that she has been asked several times to join the cast of Strictly Come Dancing. However, she quickly dismissed the idea, stating, "Are you kidding? No way!". Despite being a huge fan of the show, Collins has chosen to decline the offers to dance on television's most famous ballroom.

Angela Rippon's age-defying performances

Collins was full of praise for Angela Rippon, who continues to impress the judges and audience with her incredible skills on Strictly at the age of 78. Speaking about Rippon's performances, Collins said, "I did see it. I am a huge fan of Strictly and I thought it was amazing." Rippon, who will turn 79 later this month, does not let her age hinder her ability to perform. She stays active and fit by playing tennis, attending ballet classes, and practicing Pilates. Rippon has set clear expectations for her professional dance partner, Kai Widdrington, stating, "There are things I can do and things I can’t. I just want to do everything properly. I’ve told him, ‘Challenge me’."

Piers Morgan's involvement

In a related note, Piers Morgan shared his own experience of rejecting an offer to appear on Strictly Come Dancing. The TalkTV host admitted that last year, he declined the opportunity as he believed the offer did not come with a sufficient financial incentive. Morgan disclosed that he was offered $150,000 to compete on Dancing With The Stars, an American dance competition, while he was a judge on America's Got Talent. Morgan jokingly added, "Come back to me if it’s $1.2 million. They haven't come back yet." Despite many speculations, it remains uncertain if Morgan would ever reconsider joining the show. For now, he seems content with sparing the other contestants from his "natural dancing torso."
