ONE couple was left gritting their teeth after a disastrous turn during the latest episode of Bargain Hunt.
The BBC show was back with the Red and Blue Team facing off against each other in order to see who would come out on top with the most profit.
Bargain Hunt ended in disaster in its latest episode
This was the item that caused the couple a headache
On the Blue side was mechanic John and his company’s salesperson Becky whilst competing for team Red were Luke and Lauren.
When it came to the auction room in Cheshire, all eyes turned to John and Becky as disaster was about to strike for the pair.
Throughout the episode, the pair had been keen for a bargain, something which they successfully managed – but there was one rather pricey purchase that they couldn’t resist buying in order to take to auction.
Auctioneer Tom Blackmore watched over proceedings as John and Becky presented the three antiques they had acquired during their day.
First up, a 19th century electroplated teapot gave them a mild £2 loss after it sold for just £10 in the auction house.
Tom had originally thought the item would sell for a fiver or less and so was left eating his words after it made the pair more than he expected.
Another item brought the couple a mere £10 profit but it wasn’t until item number three that disaster really took a hold.
The duo had decided to fork out a rather hefty £115 for a radio equipment set.
Containing a series of vintage variable resistance boxes, upon first look auctioneer Tom gawped as he said: “Mad scientist equipment by the look of it!”
There was some initial displeasure when he started the bidding below the price paid, but the worst was still yet to come.
Tom said to the bidders: “What shall we say? Start me at £80 for all of this, there is plenty of it!”
However, silence struck the bidding room as no one was even considering forking out such a figure for the equipment.
With the wheels firmly off the tracks, the money continued to tumble as he said: “No? Well, start me at £60 then, if you like, £60 for it. No? Start me at £40.”
It appeared things could not get any worse for John and Becky – but it did just that.
Tom was forced to drop down to £20 where he managed to recruit a sole bidder.
Slamming the gavel, he said: “First and only bidder has it there at 20.”
Antiques expert Eric Knowles, who had been assisting the pair, gasped as he said: “Ooh, that was an ouch, big time.”
John was left shocked and admitted it “hurt” to see the item sell for £95 less than what was paid for it.
Ultimately, it was no surprise that John and Becky had failed to win the round as they ended with a considerable overall loss of £37.
