Now he’s revealed he came close to drowning on set during scenes shot on a cruise ship as Karl proposed to Izzy Hoyland, played by Natalie Bassingthwaighte.

Alan said: “This was a terrifying incident, Karl proposed to Izzy… she got so excited she pitched into the water.

“After they fished her out, I had to dive in to try and rescue her, obviously in a fictional way, but I forgot to take my shoes off so they filled up with water and every time I went down I thought ‘Gee, am I gonna come up again?'”

Appearing on Saturday Night With Hayley Palmer, he continued: “The third time I went down, I thought ‘I don’t know if I am gonna come up’. So I got a bit flustered, put my hand up in the air and the speedboat had to rush out and rescue me.

‘A week later, I actually collapsed from a delayed shock to the body, it was very weird.”

Neighbours fans were left devastated when Channel 5 scrapped the soap last year after more than two decades.

However, less than nine months after the chop, Amazon‘s ad-supported streaming service Freevee was announced as the new host for Ramsay Street residents.

Last month soap bosses took to the show’s official Twitter to reveal filming for the Neighbours reboot will begin imminently.

The show will then air on screens “later this year” and although fans are waiting for more details, they’re already keen to find out how it will pan out.

“Fantastic news”, one fan commented on the show’s official announcement while another enthused: “It’s happening! It’s actually happening!”

Although casting has yet to be confirmed, it’s thought Alan will be returning as Karl.
