Introducing Fflyn Edwards, the rising star playing young Prince Harry on The Crown

Fflyn Edwards is making waves in the acting world as he takes on the role of young Prince Harry in Season 6 of the hit Netflix series, The Crown. While the opportunity is undoubtedly a career highlight for Edwards, he recently revealed that there were three things that really got under his skin during the filming process.

A big role in a big series

While Edwards has appeared in other notable productions such as Netflix's Shadow and Bone, The Crown marks his biggest role to date. Joining a star-studded cast that includes Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, and Elizabeth Debicki, Edwards takes on the role of the young prince at the beginning of Season 6, passing the torch to Luther Ford as Harry grows into a teenager later in the season.

Adventures on set

For Edwards, being a part of The Crown was an unforgettable adventure. He spoke to BBC News about the unique experience of waking up in a new location every day while filming. From transforming a warehouse into Buckingham Palace to exploring the Queen's bedroom, Edwards was captivated by the attention to detail. He particularly enjoyed seeing the costumes worn by the other characters, adding to the authenticity of the production.

The challenges of playing Prince Harry

While The Crown provided Edwards with countless opportunities, he also faced some challenges along the way. The first hurdle came when he accepted the role and realized he had to avoid getting a tan. Edwards recalled a funny moment on the beach with his friends, where his mother had to paint him with sun lotion to ensure he maintained his fair complexion for the role.

Another challenge for Edwards was nailing Prince Harry's accent. As a Welsh actor, he had to put in extra effort to dampen his own Welsh twang and adopt the British royal's distinctive speech patterns. Hours of watching YouTube interviews helped him perfect the accent, although he admitted that he felt a bit homesick surrounded by English accents on set. Talking to other Welsh actors provided solace and a sense of home.

Lastly, Edwards confessed that wearing a red wig to transform into Prince Harry was a "nightmare." The process of gelling his hair back, putting on a wig cap, and then the wig itself took up to an hour and a half each morning. Edwards had to be careful not to move the wig out of place, even when he wanted to scratch his head. Filming in Spain posed an additional challenge, as the wig made him feel like he was wearing a beanie hat in the sweltering heat.

Proud of his performance

Despite these obstacles, Edwards is proud of his portrayal of Prince Harry. He put in extensive research and effort to ensure he captured the essence of the character. Reflecting on his performance, Edwards expressed confidence in his work and trusts that he delivered a compelling portrayal of the royal.

As Fflyn Edwards navigates his way through the demanding world of acting, his turn as young Prince Harry on The Crown has undoubtedly solidified his presence in the industry. With his talent and determination, there's no doubt that we'll be seeing more of him in the future.
