An EastEnders actress has revealed a major career change, leaving her soap fame behind to pursue a career in music. Preeya Kalidas, who played Amira Masood on the popular BBC One soap from 2009 to 2012, has since focused on her music career and has released several singles and an album.
From soap star to singer
Preeya, who had a role in the 2002 movie "Bend It Like Beckham," joined the cast of EastEnders as Amira Masood, who married Syed Masood. However, their marriage quickly fell apart when Syed revealed he was in love with another character, Christian. Preeya took a break from the soap and returned briefly when her character was revealed to be pregnant. After failed attempts to reconcile with her husband, Amira and her daughter left Walford for Birmingham, marking Preeya's permanent exit from the show.
Focused on her music
Since leaving EastEnders, Preeya has shifted her focus to music. In 2014, she released the single "Don't Give Up" followed by "Can't Live Without You." The following year, she released a studio album. Preeya has also continued to perform on stage, taking on the role of Pinky in the stage adaptation of "Bend It Like Beckham." Additionally, she has had a role in the musical "School of Rock."

She shared a video on her social media account of her bloodied finger being wrapped up, revealing that she had to visit accident and emergency. Despite the mishap, she remained in good spirits and thanked the NHS staff for their care and humor during her visit.
